Coding Training Coordinator Job Description

At MD Anderson Center, we are seeking a highly skilled Coding Training Coordinator to join our team. This role is responsible for facilitating training and auditing services for specific coding areas, designing effective training materials, and delivering educational programs to support user duties.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with management to determine the best training methodology.
  • Plan, develop, and present an effective training curriculum/process.
  • Maintain evaluation instruments to measure accomplishment of objectives and/or competencies.
  • Develop and communicate audit/training schedule.
  • Maintain accurate records of progress.
  • Monitor and report coder quality and productivity.
  • Provide managers with training/audit assessment to assist in the identification of additional educational needs.
  • Evaluate correct code assignments to verify accuracy consistent with coding rules and regulations.
  • Identify compliance risks and financial opportunities based on chart reviews to reduce systemic billing errors.
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently, reviews and interpret medical records and applies in-depth knowledge of coding principles to determine potential coding issues and quality concerns.
  • Perform audits to monitor and validate ongoing UT Systems requirements with applicable rules and guidelines.
  • Promotes development and effective use of skills in areas such as critical and analytical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.
  • Conducts needs assessments.
  • Provides coder with timely feedback on their progress.
  • Provides one-on-one training as needed.
  • Possess a thorough knowledge and understanding of institutional coding policies and procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of ICD-10-CM, PCS, DRG, SOI, ROM and CPT-4 coding guidelines according to CMS, AMA, AHA and other official sources.
  • Keeps staff up to date with coding regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Create and maintain departmental policies.
  • May conduct coding and compliance research as necessary.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for other departmental users.
  • Ability to cover for other trainer(s) and/or auditor(s).
Working Conditions:

This position requires working in an office environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in coding and training, with experience in auditing and compliance. A bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field is preferred. The candidate should possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
