WebKit is an open-source project that serves as the backbone for Safari, recognized as the fastest and most energy-efficient web browser.

Additionally, WebKit supports various Apple applications including Mail, Books, and News, and is a fundamental framework for iOS, watchOS, and macOS applications.


Key Responsibilities:
As a Security Engineer for the WebKit engine, your responsibilities will include:
  • Enhancing memory management techniques, such as utilizing smart pointers.
  • Implementing sandboxing, inter-process communication, and process isolation strategies.
  • Developing cutting-edge technologies to mitigate specific classes of security vulnerabilities.
  • Executing architectural modifications to bolster security measures.
  • Advancing programming language features to enhance security protocols.
  • Conducting static analysis of source code to identify potential vulnerabilities.
  • Formulating new testing methodologies and improving overall testability.
  • Addressing security bugs with practical solutions.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Proficient in manual memory management and pointer-based programming languages such as C, C++, or Objective-C.
  • Experience in identifying and rectifying security-related bugs.
  • Familiarity with multi-process and multi-threaded programming environments.
  • Ability to work with libraries through APIs without direct access to implementation details.
Education & Experience:

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field is required.

Many engineers on the WebKit team have successfully transitioned into this role without prior experience in web browsers. However, the following skills may provide a beneficial advantage:

  • Knowledge of web technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
  • Experience with frameworks like UIKit, AppKit, and CFNetwork.
Compensation & Benefits:

At Apple, the base salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, which is determined within a specified range.

The salary range for this position is between $166,600 and $296,300, contingent upon your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in discretionary employee stock programs.

Employees may also be eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards and can purchase Apple stock at a discounted rate through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
