The Aquatics Division at JCC Association is seeking part-time Aquatic Safety Supervisors. Reporting directly to the Aquatics Manager, these professionals are responsible for ensuring a secure swimming environment in the pool, on the deck, and in adjacent areas, while fostering a safe and welcoming atmosphere that encourages member engagement and adheres to JCC standards and protocols.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Be easily recognizable in a red lifeguard uniform, equipped with a whistle, swimwear, and a rescue tube. The rescue tube must be worn correctly, with the strap over the shoulder and held in front of the body.
- Proactively enforce all aquatic regulations and engage with members to uphold a safe environment.
- Thoroughly understand and consistently implement safety protocols, policies, and guidelines for the aquatic facility.
- Maintain vigilant observation of the pool area, which includes standing at the pool's edge or utilizing the elevated lifeguard chair, actively monitoring the water and swimmers, and regularly scanning the area.
- Minimize distractions that could hinder effective monitoring, such as avoiding prolonged conversations with staff or members.
- Relocate to different zones when multiple lifeguards are present to ensure comprehensive coverage of the pool.
- Be familiar with all emergency protocols and respond to incidents, including water rescues, immediately in line with the emergency action plan, providing first aid as necessary.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with members, participants, and fellow staff.
- Conduct equipment inspections and ensure the availability of necessary tools.
- Assess the pool for safety hazards upon arrival and throughout the shift.
- Participate in all required staff meetings and training sessions.
- Mandatory attendance at in-service training and rescue drills, which will be scheduled in advance, though drills may occur without prior notice.
- Responsible for maintaining cleanliness in the pool area following health protocols.
- Certifications: Current American Red Cross Lifeguard CPR/AED/First Aid.
- Ability to sustain certification-level physical and mental readiness, demonstrating lifeguard skills in accordance with JCC standards.
