Role Summary

The Peer Support Specialist plays a vital role in providing education, guidance, and interventions to assist clients in their journey towards recovery from mental health and substance use challenges. This position involves delivering both group and individual counseling, case management, advocacy, and outreach services tailored to clients and their families.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct case consultations, crisis interventions, and discharge placements, while facilitating individual and group sessions aimed at addressing clients' fundamental needs and managing symptoms.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation as per contractual obligations and meet the minimum requirements for billable client services.
  • Utilize personal recovery experiences to provide peer counseling and support, fostering trust and empowerment among clients and their families.
  • Assist with placement processes, including pre-placement visits and necessary transportation.
  • Participate in shift coverage as part of the on-call team.
  • Deliver field-based services in accordance with program and client needs.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all aspects of client care.
  • Engage in scheduled program meetings and contribute to team discussions.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Peer Specialist Certification is mandatory.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Personal experience in mental health or substance use recovery, or as a family member, is essential and must be disclosed.
  • A valid driver's license and current auto insurance are required.
  • Cultural competency is necessary; bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and EHR software is advantageous.
