Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

We are seeking a highly skilled Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our team in Sheboygan. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide exceptional care to neonates and high-risk infants, working closely with physicians and other interdisciplinary team members to ensure seamless transitions and continuity of care.
Responsibilities- Manage the daily care of neonates and high-risk infants, providing advanced practice clinical skills such as delivery room management, advanced physical assessment, and evaluation of laboratory and clinical data.
- Attend high-risk and c-section deliveries as team leader, except when a neonatologist is present.
- Act as the primary patient and physician contact, working one-on-one with physicians to facilitate access to specialty teams for patients and their families.
- Provide continuity of care by ensuring smooth transitions between care settings and tracking patients along the care continuum, including post-discharge.
- Manage complex care coordination, including managing ancillary services, pre-operative plans, discharge planning, and provider referrals.
- Provide clinical direction to nursing staff regarding continued care of patients, following through to ensure patients receive recommended care.
- Prescribe, recommend, and regulate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies, including controlled medications warranted by patient diagnosis or changing medical condition.
- Order, perform, and interpret procedures, diagnostic tests, or studies to manage complex neonatal illnesses/conditions, most commonly prematurity and respiratory distress.
- Provide parental and family support and education related to the infant, counseling, instructing, and educating families on physical and mental health.
- Interpret and evaluate patient data as authorized by a physician for determining management and treatment of patients.
- Consult with physicians as appropriate, adjusting patient care plans by reviewing and monitoring treatments and therapy plans.
- Prepare, dictate, and sign patient care plans and summaries of patient care, maintaining records according to established standards and guidelines.
- Manage the neonatal resuscitation team when a neonatologist is not present, acting as a team leader during transport to/from facilities and collaborating with the neonatologist to provide stabilization of critically ill infants.
- Perform various patient positioning and transporting duties, requiring lifting and pushing/pulling while utilizing proper technique.
- Registered Nurse license issued by the state in which the team member practices.
- Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber license issued by the state of Wisconsin.
- Neonatal Nurse Practitioner-Board Certified (NNP-BC) issued by the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
- Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) registration issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months.
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA)/American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
A Master's Degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Nursing is required.
ExperienceTypically requires 2 years of experience in providing clinical care as a neonatal nurse practitioner, including extensive knowledge of neonatal/infant physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Ability to effectively exercise independent judgment in the assessment, diagnosis, and initiation of nursing and delegated medical processes and procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective member of a healthcare team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment while managing multiple demands.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with and establish/build relationships with others.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to prioritize effectively.
Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist continuously throughout the workday. Must have functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist, lift up to 20 lbs over the head, and carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance. Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs with a second person present. Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, and radiation hazards, as well as blood and body fluids, requiring the use of protective clothing and equipment.
