Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center is a faith-based Catholic healthcare organization that has been serving the underserved and vulnerable populations since its inception. Our center is recognized for its quality healthcare, being verified as a Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center, and designated as a STEMI Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center.

Position Overview:

Under general supervision, you will assist physicians in conducting both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures, including structural heart interventions and vascular procedures within the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL). You will prepare patients and procedural sites using aseptic techniques, assist physicians by calibrating equipment, and prepare necessary supplies and instruments for procedures. Your role will involve setting up, operating, and monitoring complex digital medical and fluoroscopic equipment to ensure precise image acquisition and optimal patient outcomes. You will utilize various computer applications and medical devices for accurate documentation within the electronic health record (EHR). Monitoring, interpreting, and calculating hemodynamic waveforms and EKGs will also be part of your responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Gather and document all relevant pre-procedural information from patients and medical records.
  • Prepare patients for procedures with appropriate positioning and surgical preparation of procedural sites.
  • Maintain sterile techniques while assisting physicians during adult and pediatric cardiac, electrophysiology, and vascular procedures.
  • Operate digital medical and fluoroscopic equipment during procedures.
  • Continuously monitor patients' conditions through the interpretation of EKGs and hemodynamic waveforms.
  • Document procedural events accurately and ensure the integrity of recorded waveforms and calculations.
  • Load automatic injectors with contrast media and administer via catheter as directed by the physician.
  • Utilize hospital inventory systems for stocking and ensuring readiness of equipment and supplies.
  • Engage in unit performance improvement and quality management initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Vocational/Technical Degree required.
  • Must hold RCIS credentials through Cardiovascular Credentialing International and/or RT through ARRT.
  • BLS and ACLS certifications are mandatory.
  • Completion of a basic dysrhythmia course is required.
  • Experience of 6 to 12 months in on-the-job training in electrocardiograph interpretation, aseptic techniques, and cardiac diagnostic and interventional procedures is necessary.

Experience:

  • Previous experience in a Cath Lab or as a Radiologic Technologist is preferred but not essential.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: A solid understanding of heart anatomy, physiology, and radiographic procedures is essential, typically acquired through two years of education in an allied health science. Registry as an invasive Cardiovascular Specialist is desirable. Analytical skills are necessary for monitoring and assessing patient conditions and performing calculations for diagnosing heart defects.
