Trauma Nurse Registrar Position

Jamaica Hospital Medical Center is seeking an experienced Trauma Nurse Registrar to join our team. As a Trauma Nurse Registrar, you will play a critical role in the identification, abstraction, and reporting of trauma patients in our Trauma Registry.
Responsibilities:- Identify patients who meet criteria for entry into the trauma registry, utilizing all available resources, in accordance with national, state, local, and organizational rules, conventions, and guidelines.
- Abstract accurate, thorough, high-quality data from the electronic medical record into the Trauma Registry, for each patient identified and assigned to you, in accordance with the National Trauma Data Standard (NTDS) and New York State Data Dictionary.
- Maintain concurrent trauma registry, with at least 80% of patient records completed within 60 days of hospital exit, in accordance with current American College of Surgeons (ACS) requirements and standards.
- Run registry reports as requested by the Trauma Medical Director, Trauma Program Director, and/or Performance Improvement Team.
- Assist with the preparation of reports and data for any and all trauma-related meetings, research, and reporting as directed by the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Program Director.
- Submit data to the National Trauma Databank, Trauma Quality Improvement Program, and New York State Trauma Registry in accordance with the schedules required by those entities.
- Identify, analyze, and report patient safety and quality concerns, both on a case-by-case and aggregate basis, to the Trauma Program Director and Performance Improvement Team.
- Participate in Inter-Rater Reliability data validation, feedback, and correction activities.
- Maintain annual continuing education requirements in accordance with ACS standards.
- Attend and participate in organization, local, regional, state, and national trauma meetings and conferences.
- Current, unencumbered license as Registered Professional Nurse in NYS required.
- At least two (2) years' experience in direct bedside care (ED, ICU, PACU, OR) of the acute trauma patient required.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
- Healthcare-related graduate degree (MSN, MPH, MPA, etc) preferred.
- Current board certification in trauma (TCRN), emergency (CEN/CPEN), and/or critical care nursing (CCRN, PCCN) preferred.
- Previous experience as a trauma registrar preferred.
- Must attend and pass the following courses within a reasonable timeframe after hire (in accordance with ACS requirements):
- A basic trauma registry course recognized by the ACS.
- The AAAM's Abbreviated Injury Scale (AIS) course for the version used at Jamaica Hospital's Trauma Center.
- An initial ICD-10 course, and a refresher every five (5) years.
- Must accrue 24-hours of CME per 3-year verification cycle.
- Should maintain current membership in trauma nursing-related professional organization (ENA, ATS, STN, etc.).
- Proficient at computer/keyboarding skills.
- Proficiency in use of the MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Ability to be independent, self-motivated, meet deadlines, problem solve, organize, interpret, and present information.
- Good communication skills with patients, supervisors, and co-workers.
- Manual dexterity and skill to operate all types of office equipment.
Salary: $100K - $120K Plus Full Benefits
