Maintenance Assistant Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Maintenance Assistant to join our team at Northfield Retirement Communities Inc. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and safety of our facilities, ensuring a comfortable and secure environment for our residents.

Responsibilities:
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Perform routine cleaning and maintenance of grounds, amenities, building exteriors and interiors, parking lots and other areas surrounding the facility.
  • Interior and Exterior Details: Details interior and exterior areas on a regular basis using general cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Snow Shoveling: Assist with snow shoveling of sidewalks and other main entry areas per snow removal policy.
  • On-Call Rotation: Participate in on-call rotation with maintenance team.
  • Storage and Shop Areas: Help clean and maintain storage and shop areas.
  • Package Delivery: Deliver packages to residents and staff.
  • OSHA Compliance: Comply with all OSHA safety regulations, local applicable laws regarding health, safety or environment and NRC Health and Safety Policy.
  • Safe Work Practices: Understand and follow safe work practices for all trades, including but not limited to: Lockout Tag-out, Ladder Safety, PPE, Hazardous Chemicals, Working from Elevated Surfaces, and all other Safety Protocols.
  • Facility Safety Program: Follow facility safety program.
  • Waste Disposal: Follow waste disposal procedures in accordance with facility policy.
  • System Checks: Perform system checks: Fire extinguishers, filters and vents, clothes dryer vents, water temperatures, outlet testing, smoke detectors, emergency lights and exit lights, handrails, and other system checks needed.
  • Resident Safety: Ensure a safe, clean environment for residents and co-workers. Initiate corrective action.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Accountability and personal integrity are essential as the nature of the position allows access to a resident's personal and private information.
  • Teamwork: Consistently work cooperatively with residents, and staff.
  • Professional Appearance: Come to work in a neat, clean uniform with nametag and consistently present an appropriate professional appearance.
  • Punctuality: Come to work as scheduled and demonstrate dependability and punctuality.
  • Accountability: Assume accountability for data contained in the employees' handbook.
  • Infection Control: Observe infection control procedures.
  • Resident's Rights: Follow Resident's Rights policies.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma: High School diploma preferred, G.E.D certificate or demonstrate ability to read and write.
  • Maintenance Experience: Maintenance understanding and experience preferred.
  • Physical Ability: Physical ability to perform job-related duties, which may require lifting up to 50lbs, standing, bending, transferring, stooping, stretching, walking, pushing and pulling.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least Twenty-Five (25) years of age.
  • Language: Must be able to speak and understand the English language or a language understood by a substantial portion of the facility's residents.
