Mechanical Engineer, Principal, Controls and Actuation

About the Role:
This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team as a Principal Controls and Actuation Mechanical Engineer. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for developing technical solutions for a wide range of moving element challenges, including aerodynamic steering, thrust vectoring, attitude-and-divert maneuvering, pointing, and stabilizing of missile systems & subsystems.
Responsibilities:
- Develop technical solutions for moving element challenges
- Apply sound mechanical engineering principles to solve complex system problems
- Collaborate with cross-discipline teams, including electrical engineering, systems engineering, flight science, manufacturing engineering, supply chain, and others
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of requirements, concepts, and trade studies
- Generate free-body diagrams, perform structural and thermal analysis, and conduct tolerance analysis
- Support the development of manufacturing processes and build tooling
- Participate in test process and test equipment development
Requirements:
- Bachelor's in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior mechanical engineering experience, or an Advance degree in a related field and a minimum of 8 years' experience
- Experience with Systems or Mechanical Engineering of servo controls
- Experience with development of CAS requirements, CAS architecture, requirements risk, requirements verification and validation, system performance & function, safety and environmental compliance
- Proficient in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing per ASME Y14.5
- Proven ability to deconstruct higher level tasks into discrete lower level work packages and tasks
- Proficient in generating free body diagrams
- Proficient in Engineering processes and procedures
- Moderate 3D modeling skills with a prominent commercial software package
- Experience with Pro/Engineer/CREO 3D modeling and mechanical drawing generation
- Experience using Matlab, Simulink, and dSpace
