Job Title: Preschool Lead Teacher

At the YMCA of Central Ohio, we believe that the early years of a child's life are crucial for their development and growth. As a Preschool Lead Teacher, you will play a vital role in shaping the minds of our young learners and helping them reach their full potential.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Lead by Example: Demonstrate a cause-driven leadership style and serve as a role model for other staff members and children in promoting healthy living practices and desired staff behaviors.
  2. Classroom Preparation: Ensure a safe and engaging learning environment by arranging and maintaining the classroom space, managing supplies, and conducting regular assessments to meet the needs of our children.
  3. Communication and Relationships: Build strong relationships with children, parents, and staff through effective communication, greeting each child and parent daily, and providing regular updates on their progress.
  4. Child Development and Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to identify each child's developmental needs, establish individual goals, and document progress to inform curriculum planning and assessment.
  5. Lesson Planning and Implementation: Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that reflect a well-balanced and varied program, incorporating Ohio, SUTQ, NAEYC, and grant standards.
  6. Behavior Management and Support: Provide positive reinforcement, set clear expectations, and offer support to children as needed to promote healthy behavior and social-emotional development.
  7. Compliance and Record-Keeping: Ensure the center's compliance with YMCA, ODJFS licensing, SUTQ, grant, and NAEYC requirements, maintaining accurate records and data entry.
  8. Team Collaboration and Professional Development: Contribute to staff projects, attend meetings and workshops, and maintain training hours to stay up-to-date on best practices and industry standards.
  9. Attendance and Absence Management: Maintain prompt attendance, follow procedures for absences, and provide guidance to staff in the event of your absence.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in child development, elementary education, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Career Pathway Level as determined by Program's SUTQ requirements.
  • Medical statement and training certifications in first aid, communicable diseases, child abuse recognition & prevention required by ODJFS.
  • Passionate commitment to the Y's cause of nurturing the potential of all youth, supporting healthy living for all people, and finding ways to help and support our neighbors.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people and foster a collaborative team approach to solving challenging situations.
