Job Summary

The Staff Accountant plays a vital role in ensuring the financial integrity and accountability of Chicago Children's Museum. This position is responsible for processing transactional accounting data, preparing account reconciliations, and providing financial analyses and reports to internal and external customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process transactional accounting data for assigned areas of responsibility, including accounts payable, payroll, cash management, cash receipts, and petty cash.
  • Prepare account reconciliations for assigned balance sheet and income statement accounts.
  • Prepare journal entries and account analyses as necessary to ensure proper accountability and internal control of CCM's assets.
  • Perform monthly close procedures to provide management with CCM financial results on a timely basis.
  • Provide accounting support to internal and external customers, including reports, analyses, and manpower.
  • Support the museum's work in diversity, equity, access, and inclusion, and actively ensure that DEAI principles are upheld in all work with fellow staff, visitors, community, and other external partners.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or comparable experience.
  • 5 years of experience in A/R, A/P, journal entries, reconciliations without degree or 1-2 years of accounting experience with degree.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and basics.
  • Strong computer skills with demonstrated proficiency in spreadsheets.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • High value of ethics, dependability, and reliability.
  • Possess an equity mindset and cultural humility.
  • Positive 'can-do' attitude.
  • Strong teamwork values, cooperation, and professionalism are essential.

This position is eligible for very competitive medical, dental, vision, life, long-term disability, and short-term disability insurances, 401(k) after six months of service with matching contributions pending eligibility, as well as 14 days PTO and 12 Sick Days annually (accrued monthly).
