This pivotal position within our Information Security & Technology (IST) Department involves the administration, enhancement, and support of our technological frameworks. The Systems Engineer will collaborate closely with the IST Director to strategize, develop, and implement IT initiatives; oversee the deployment and management of network engineering, business applications, database systems, surveillance, and mobile technologies to boost operational efficiency and security; address escalated service challenges; and mentor IST personnel towards effective solutions.

Key Qualifications: Ideal candidates for the Systems Engineer position will exhibit a strong customer service orientation and the ability to manage systems and deliver projects in a dynamic environment that requires significant interaction with internal clients, vendors, third-party contractors, and various stakeholders.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology or a related field, with at least 5 years of progressively responsible experience in systems engineering.
  • Certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) and CompTIA Network+ and Security+.
  • Proven experience in areas directly related to the Systems Engineer role, including:
    • Deployment and management of desktop, mobile, and server operating systems, including Windows 10/11, Android, iOS, Mac OS, and Windows Server 2008 or later.
    • Application support for Microsoft 365, Office 365, SQL, and Azure Cloud services.
    • Familiarity with network software, protocols, and standards, including SonicWALL, Cisco Catalyst, and Meraki technologies.
    • Backup and recovery systems for both on-premise and cloud environments.
    • Enterprise Endpoint Protection systems, such as Windows Defender.
    • Management of Secure Socket Layer (SSL) certificates.
    • Administration of hybrid configurations involving Active Directory Domain, Active Directory Federation, Exchange, and Web Application Proxy services.
    • Experience with SaaS, IaaS, and PaaS product deployment and management.
    • Proficiency in Azure Cloud Services, including Azure Active Directory, Compliance and Security, Endpoint Manager, Exchange, SharePoint, Teams, Virtual Machines, Windows Defender, and Microsoft Sentinel.
    • Mobile device management expertise.
    • Management of virtual servers using Microsoft's Hyper-V technology and Azure's Virtual Machine service.
    • Storage Area Network (SAN) management.
    • Documentation and maintenance of system configurations and processes.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience

  • Experience with IT and OT systems in the railroad industry, such as fare collection, security cameras, public messaging, and access control.
  • Knowledge of current cybersecurity software, protocols, and standards.
  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) and Certified Systems Engineer Professional (CSEP).
  • Experience in disaster recovery planning.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage complex, overlapping projects.

Additional Requirements:

Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a safe driving record throughout employment.

Flexibility to work outside of standard business hours in a dynamic commuter rail environment is essential.
