POSITION SUMMARY:
Captures images of cardiac muscle and function by configuring ultrasound machinery, attaching electrodes to the chest and equipment, operating and adjusting machinery, and recording cardiac data and measurements for both inpatient and outpatient adult and pediatric echocardiograms.
EDUCATION/LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:
Graduate of an AMA accredited allied health professions program or equivalent. Must possess a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) registration/eligibility or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification/eligibility. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES/QUALIFICATIONS:
Scheduling outpatient examinations, familiarity with strain and 3D imaging, GEVivid E9 and VE95 preferred.
Prior experience in conducting ultrasound examinations of cerebral, peripheral, and abdominal vessels is preferred, or willingness to undergo training within one year of hire.
Participation in on-call shift rotation.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TECHNICAL:
Utilizes proper patient identification protocols prior to ultrasound examinations, verifies physician orders, documents in medical records when necessary, and performs procedures accurately according to departmental policies and vendor guidelines.
Obtains and documents patient history, records lab results, and retrieves the patient's Imaging Services film jacket and physician orders.
Delivers individualized patient care consistent with established standards of care, policies, procedures, and other regulatory standards.
Explains procedures to patients and identifies their significant others' educational needs; provides education or directs patients to appropriate resources.
Conducts sonographic studies as required, records results on film or as appropriate, and demonstrates anatomy and pathology to the Radiologist during real-time examinations.
Performs routine maintenance tasks in the Cardiovascular Department.
Monitors equipment for proper functioning and reports malfunctions to the Supervisor.
Updates patient film history and charges patient accounts through the hospital computer system accurately and promptly.
Completes department-specific competencies per DOH requirements and hospital policy, including CME requirements.
Monitors patient flow and adjusts schedules according to changing priorities.
Participates in "on-call" duties with other Cardiovascular Technologists. Depending on qualifications, may also participate in "on-call" duties in general Ultrasound.
Maintains a clean and safe environment in the department using established infection control techniques that promote quality patient care.
Applies knowledge of growth and development principles to assess each patient's age-specific needs and provide appropriate treatment and care.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement between EvergreenHealth Monroe and United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW), Local 3000.
