The Senior Vice President of Merchandising Operations is a pivotal leadership position within WSS, focusing on strategic oversight and execution in the footwear sector. This role demands a blend of innovative strategy formulation, comprehensive financial insight, and extensive experience in merchandising, all while maintaining a strong consumer orientation and the ability to guide a substantial team.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision & Implementation


• Cultivate consumer loyalty for WSS by developing a compelling product vision that aligns with short, medium, and long-term merchandising strategies aimed at achieving financial objectives and enhancing market presence.


• Direct the pre-season and in-season merchandising strategies, ensuring high-level execution by teams to meet established goals.


• Drive innovation and establish best practices to create a premier buying function that aligns with the company's growth and profitability objectives.


• Formulate long-term vendor strategies, collaborating with partners to realize the merchandising vision.


• Collaborate with Planning & Allocation teams to oversee the merchandise planning process, crafting comprehensive plans that drive financial success and meet consumer needs.


• Ensure effective management of product lifecycles, from trend spotting to profitable scaling.


• Leverage financial expertise to guide teams in high-level execution, encouraging adaptability and a commitment to exceeding expectations.

Vendor Engagement


• Foster strong relationships with vendors, establishing trust and creating competitive advantages through industry leadership.


• Negotiate terms with vendors regarding quantities, delivery schedules, and pricing to optimize profitability and exceed targets.

Market Leadership


• Utilize a keen understanding of market trends and consumer behavior to lead the buying team in defining product assortments, identifying emerging trends, and creating a distinctive market presence.


• Recognize growth opportunities and develop a strategic vision for expansion.

Consumer-Centric Approach


• Utilize consumer insights, data, and research to inform merchandising strategies and plans.


• Collaborate with the Marketing team to generate program ideas rooted in product selections that drive consumer engagement and sales. Guide the buying team in identifying opportunities to craft compelling product narratives across various channels.


• Work closely with Visual Merchandising and Ecommerce teams to ensure the product vision is effectively represented in-store and online.

Leadership & Team Development


• Demonstrate proven leadership in enhancing team capabilities by developing individuals to meet current and future objectives, building a strong talent pipeline, and fostering engagement.


• Provide constructive feedback on team members' strengths and areas for improvement, identifying opportunities for professional growth and development.


• Create a culture where team members feel empowered to take calculated risks, learn from experiences, and continuously strive for excellence.

Qualifications:


• A minimum of 10 years of experience in a specialty retail environment, preferably in footwear.


• A Bachelor's degree in business administration, fashion merchandising, marketing, or a related field is required.


• A career trajectory that includes progressive roles in buying and merchandising.


• Strong collaborative skills, with experience working alongside top national brands.


• A demonstrated history of formulating merchandising strategies, motivating teams, and achieving results through cross-functional collaboration.


• Proven ability to enhance performance and drive revenue growth in a dynamic environment.


• Exceptional influencing and negotiation skills, both internally and externally.


• A track record of capitalizing on trends and meeting consumer needs through superior product assortments, coupled with strong financial acumen.


• Excellent organizational, communication, and analytical skills.


• A demonstrated ability to build, coach, and develop high-performing teams.
