Job Title: Family Advisor

Join the State of Montana team as a Family Advisor, playing a vital role in supporting families with children who are deaf, hard of hearing, blind, visually impaired, or deafblind. This position requires a strong understanding of child development, family engagement, and play activities, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with families and other service providers.

Job Summary:

The Family Advisor will work with families to develop and implement individualized plans to support their child's unique needs. This includes providing instruction in communication, interaction, and methodology, as well as psychosocial and behavior skills, educational and community resources, amplification and auditory skills, and assistive technology.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist families in understanding their child's sensory needs and developing strategies to support their child's development.
  • Work with Outreach Consultants to develop and implement individualized plans for families.
  • Provide support and instruction to families in their home, focusing on communication, interaction, and methodology.
  • Monitor and report on family progress, identifying areas of strength and need.
  • Collaborate with other service providers to ensure a comprehensive approach to supporting families.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Orientation and Mobility, or a related field.
  • Two years of experience working with children with disabilities, preferably in a teaching or support role.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with families and other service providers.
  • Knowledge of child development, family engagement, and play activities, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in sign language.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Sign language skills, preferably at a level of proficiency sufficient for effective communication with deaf and hard of hearing students.
  • Understanding of the impact of vision concerns on development, preferably with experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired.

This is a telework position, and the successful candidate will be required to work effectively without close supervision. The Family Advisor will be responsible for maintaining student files in a confidential and secure manner, as well as communicating effectively with parents, children, and other service providers.
