We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery to join our team at Denver Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and directing the operations of the Orthopedic Trauma Division, including planning, scheduling, and coordination of surgical services.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in trauma surgery, leadership, and research, with a particular emphasis on securing research grants, navigating IRB processes, and advancing orthopedic knowledge and publications.
The Chief of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery will oversee data management and statistical analysis, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of research findings. They will also direct the research function of the department, leading and coordinating all research efforts across the department.
The successful candidate will be a strong leader, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive patient management and optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Analyze patient medical history, medication allergies, physical condition, and examination results to verify operation necessity and determine best procedure.
- Conduct research to develop and test surgical techniques that can improve operating procedures and outcomes related to musculoskeletal injuries and diseases.
- Diagnose bodily disorders and orthopedic conditions, and provide treatments, such as medicines and surgeries, in clinics, hospital wards, or operating rooms.
- Direct and coordinate activities of nurses, assistants, specialists, residents, and other medical staff.
- Examine instruments, equipment, and operating room to ensure sterility.
- Examine patient to obtain information on medical condition and surgical risk.
- Follow established surgical techniques during the operation.
- Manage surgery services, including planning, scheduling, and coordination, determination of procedures, or procurement of supplies and equipment.
- Operate on patient's musculoskeletal system to correct deformities, repair injuries, prevent and treat diseases, or improve or restore patient's functions.
- Order and interpret the results of laboratory tests and diagnostic imaging procedures.
- Prepare case histories.
- Prescribe preoperative and postoperative treatments and procedures, such as sedatives, diets, antibiotics, or preparation and treatment of the patient's operative area.
- Provide consultation and surgical assistance to other physicians and surgeons.
- Refer patient to medical specialist or other practitioners when necessary.
- Doctorate Degree Required
- MD-Physician - State Medical Board Required
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment.
- Able to effectively manage and direct medical staff support activities while providing quality medical care.
- Able to receive detailed information through oral communications; express or exchange ideas by verbal communications.
- Excellent written and verbal communications, listening, and social skills.
- Able to interact effectively with people of varied educational, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, skill levels, and value systems.
- Performs in a tactful and professional manner.
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
