Position Summary

We are seeking a general assignment reporter who can adeptly cover a wide array of stories, ranging from urgent news to in-depth investigations, both on camera and off. This role is pivotal; we desire a seasoned journalist with a solid history of addressing challenging assignments, writing with precision and clarity, and quickly developing expertise on various topics.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Delivering comprehensive coverage of significant news events while providing context and insight that transcends the typical news cycle.
  • Engaging in substantial enterprise and investigative reporting focused on underrepresented communities and global issues that resonate locally.
  • Producing compelling narratives that highlight the unique aspects of Houston as a vibrant hub for journalism.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess:

  • A minimum of 10 years of professional journalism experience, with the ability to report and write on issues pertinent to Houston.
  • Proficiency in on-location reporting to enrich stories with vivid detail and create engaging visual, social, and audio content.
  • A track record of producing daily reports as well as visually engaging weekly and monthly features.
  • Experience collaborating with audience, marketing, and development teams to amplify our journalistic efforts.
  • A history of teamwork and mentorship that enhances the quality of journalism through co-authored stories.
  • An understanding of the global context of Houston and how international events impact the local community.
  • While proficiency in additional languages, particularly Spanish, is advantageous, it is not a requirement for this role.
