Job Description

The Payroll Assistant Intern plays a crucial role in maintaining employee records and providing general payroll support to the weekly payroll process and monthly union remittances.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate with field management staff to collect, review, and save union new hire paperwork, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Document Social Security verifications in employee master files.
  • Verify union I-9 forms and ensure compliance with government regulations.
  • Create union employee records in the ERP system, ensuring accurate demographics, union details, and project assignment data.
  • Submit new hire reports to state agencies.
  • Update employee records as needed, including personal data, withholdings, assignment transfers, and severance or termination information.
  • Respond to and resolve union employee payroll inquiries.
  • Provide support to the payroll team during weekly processing and monthly union remittances.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED and 1 year of accounting and/or payroll experience.
  • Pursuit of Associates or Bachelors degree in a relevant field.
  • Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
  • Actively involved in campus, community, or other volunteer activities or organizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Basic knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Self-motivated and eager learner, aptitude to grow and develop within the field.
