Clinical Research Registered Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Clinical Research Registered Nurse to join our team at the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development in Bethesda, Maryland.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Attend and participate in patient care conferences to ensure seamless care coordination.
  • Perform assessments, collect medical histories, and conduct physicals to inform treatment plans.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze data, entering and tracking patient information to support research efforts.
  • Schedule testing and clinic appointments, initiate medical records, and make admission room reservations to optimize patient flow.
  • Assess participants' physiologic condition upon admission, monitor throughout visits, and report any adverse reactions to investigators.
  • Conduct patient recruitment, perform data collection and analysis, and document care provided per protocol requirements.
  • Teach patients and families about conditions, treatments, and medications to promote informed decision-making.
  • Communicate abnormal results and concerns to research staff and inform patients of processes and activities for review and follow-up.
  • Prepare patients for surgical and diagnostic procedures, explaining activities and steps to ensure patient understanding.
  • Schedule new and return patients' appointments and return patients' and families' phone calls to provide exceptional customer service.
  • Collaborate with physicians to plan, evaluate, coordinate, and revise programs to deliver efficient healthcare services.
  • Attend patient rounds, protocol information meetings, and participate in patient care conferences to stay informed and engaged.
  • Perform professional nursing duties, serve as primary nurse for specific patient populations, and provide comprehensive care based on physicians' medical care plans.
  • Manage testing to ensure projects and protocol responsibilities are completed within timelines, given resource availability and allocation.
  • Plan, implement, evaluate, and document care provided per protocol requirements and good clinical practice standards.
  • Incorporate research protocol requirements into care delivery for participants in support of research efforts.
  • Coordinate the collection and analysis of research data, ensuring all records are complete and accurate.
  • Develop plans to address patients' needs, initiate referrals, and provide routine care to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Coordinate healthcare needs, make referrals to medical specialists, and support the planning and execution of research experiments.
  • Work with staff on clinical care of subjects enrolled in NICHD OCD research protocols and consultations.
  • Assist Nurse Practitioners, evaluate, and make recommendations to improve patient care, adhering to good clinical practices.
  • Review standard nursing procedures, document areas for improvement, and research industry best practices to recommend for further evaluation.
  • Review patient and patient family feedback, provide summary reporting, and perform procedures like IV placement, phlebotomy, and administering medications.
  • Insert and maintain peripheral access intravenous (IV) lines, provide care of central venous access lines, and perform phlebotomy to collect clinical and research blood samples.
  • Perform specialized testing, document care provided per protocol requirements, and respond to emergency situations and illnesses of participants.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing
  • Minimum of four (4) years of experience in a clinical research environment
