Job Overview:
Duties of this position include skilled mechanical repairs to electrical and hydraulic systems, repairs to pneumatic systems, small equipment repairs to include chainsaws/weed eaters, body work related to accidents or wear/tear, repairs to tires, field service calls, A/C repairs, preventative maintenance levels, utilizes diagnostic equipment to diagnose mechanical failures. Diagnose the repairs or replacement of parts on all diesel powered equipment assigned to SCDOT.

Key Responsibilities:
- Performs maintenance and repairs on diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic motors, pumps, cylinders, mowing equipment, tractors, motor-graders, rollers and AMZ machines.
- Performs welding and fabrication as needed for repairs on various equipment making modifications to equipment to improve the production of utilizations.
- Ensures that all hazardous waste and materials are properly stored and or disposed as per DHEC regulations.
- Performs service calls at field work sites as needed.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- 5 years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment;
- Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience;
- Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
