Chief Building Official

This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires a strong understanding of building codes and regulations. As a Chief Building Official, you will be responsible for ensuring that residential and commercial projects in the City of East Point, GA meet the necessary safety and code compliance standards.

• Conduct regular field inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and regulations
• Review submitted plans for residential and commercial projects
• Inspect buildings for type of occupancy in relation to building type
• Issue warnings, stop work orders, and citations for non-compliance
• Input inspection reports into computer for access and storage
• Attend and participate in meetings regarding assigned site locations and projects
• Perform other duties as required by the Director and Assistant Director of Planning & Zoning

• High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree or 5 years of professional experience in Construction Trade; equivalent combination of education and experience
• Must possess Residential and Commercial Combination ICC Certification, CBO Certification or State License
• Knowledge of City and Department policies and procedures
• Knowledge of City, State, and National building codes
• Knowledge of erosion and sedimentation controls standards, construction methods, and materials
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions
• Knowledge of generally accepted engineering, construction, and building practices

The work is typically performed both in office and in the field. Climbing, stooping, bending, lifting, and crawling are required. The employee uses tools or equipment requiring dexterity.
