Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to join our team at the City of Mesquite, TX. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and directing the activities of the Accounting Division, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, and providing administrative support to the Finance Director.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and direct the activities of the Accounting Division, including supervising staff and coordinating with other departments and external agencies.
  • Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting, including preparing and reviewing financial statements, budgets, and other financial reports.
  • Provide administrative support to the Finance Director, including coordinating meetings, preparing reports, and performing other administrative tasks.
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP, GASB, and federal requirements.
  • Manage and participate in the development and administration of the City's annual budget, including forecasting funds needed for staffing, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Coordinate the annual independent audit, including selecting, confirming, and scheduling audit staff, and assisting in preparing the City's formal response to audit recommendations.
  • Supervise and participate in the preparation of difficult and complex financial and administrative reports, including financial statements, footnotes, letters of transmittal, and statistical data.
  • Provide backup for the review and authorization of expenditure requests and check disbursement.
  • Manage and participate in the development and administration of accounting and auditing systems, including automated applications such as the general accounting system and payroll.
  • Ensure that accounting activities are conducted and reported in accordance with GAAP, GASB, and federal requirements.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Seven to ten years of increasingly responsible experience in financial and accounting administration, including experience in fund accounting and four years of supervisory responsibility.
  • CPA license or CGFM certification is strongly preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
