About the Unit

Gerber Med Surg is a 13-bed unit, with 4 observation beds and 9 inpatient beds. The unit is currently undergoing a refresh, with new paint, flooring, and artwork in the halls and patient rooms. We also have a new nurses station, breakroom, and staff bathroom. Our unit is home to our largest patient population and is a cornerstone of the hospital. We offer telemedicine services in pulmonology, neurology, infectious disease, and wound care. Coming soon to Gerber are telemedicine palliative care services. We have MRI services 6 days a week, CT, fluoroscopy, general and orthopedic surgery, care management, and medical social workers all on site. Our goal is to provide high-quality care to our patients and keep it local.

Scope of Work

As a Med-Surg Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering nursing care responsibly and accountably, as described by the American Nurses Association (ANA) and legally by the State of Michigan. You will demonstrate competency through the critical thinking model known as the nursing process, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. You will uphold the standards of professional performance, including ethical practice, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice, and research.

Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Nursing is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required within 5 years.
  • MI Registered Nurse (RN) license is required.
  • AHA or ARC Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within 90 days.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required within 6 months.
