King County is seeking to fill multiple positions for Transit Customer Information Specialists within the Customer Information Office (CIO). These roles are essential for providing assistance to customers regarding transit routes, schedules, fares, and various transit services through our dedicated call center.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist customers in planning their transit journeys across the Puget Sound region using public transportation.
- Utilize diverse reference materials to deliver accurate transit service and related information.
- Handle customer inquiries, commendations, complaints, and requests via phone, email, and written correspondence.
- Facilitate the sale of fare media over the phone and provide support for the ORCA fare card and mobile ticketing systems.
- Manage lost items reported to Metro's Lost and Found Office, ensuring proper logging and tracking.
- Perform additional special tasks as required.
Qualifications
We are looking for candidates who possess:
- Experience in a customer service environment.
- Strong customer service skills and a commitment to excellence.
- Ability to interpret maps, timetables, and transit schedules effectively.
- Competence in following both oral and written instructions.
- Capability to manage multiple tasks, particularly in handling web-based or emailed customer contacts.
- Proficiency in using computers and adapting to new software applications.
- Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- A reliable attendance record and a passion for serving a diverse community.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidates will have:
- Personal or professional experience with a transit system.
- Proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service in a high-volume call center.
- Experience in assisting individuals with challenging inquiries.
- Basic knowledge of the geography of the Puget Sound area.
Work Environment
This position primarily operates in a hybrid telework and office setting, requiring a working phone for scheduled and emergency tasks. Some shifts may necessitate the ability to lift up to 40 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.
Application Process
Interested candidates should submit an online employment application, complete the supplemental questions, and attach a cover letter. Training for new hires will be fully compensated and will last between 6-8 weeks, with scheduled hours from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.
Work Schedule
The Customer Information Office operates with reduced hours during weekdays, ensuring availability for public inquiries from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
