Crossing Guard

We are seeking a Crossing Guard to provide safe student escort across a roadway within a marked crosswalk to an assigned school. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and be able to maintain cooperation of motorists at school crossings.

• Stop traffic to allow students and adults to safely cross the street.
• Assist students in crossing the street safely.
• Maintain order of students and report any behavioral problems to school management.
• Provide adult supervision of students before they reach the school grounds.
• Support and enforce district policies and regulations.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

• Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
• Some experience working with children.

This position typically works two (2) hours/day with potential split shifts, and observes the student calendar.

Testing procedures may consist of a written multiple-choice examination, and oral interview examination. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be required to take the exam and notified via email communication of the scheduled date, time, and location.

The initial salary rate for a new employee is at the first step of the appropriate salary schedule for the position. The probationary period is 130 work days (not counting sick, industrial accident). Upon becoming permanent, a one-step salary advance shall be granted with future annual advances up to the fifth step of the salary schedule.

This job is performed in an outdoor environment. Exposures to inclement weather conditions; high winds, dust and/or pollens; road traffic, exhaust and noise from automobiles, buses, motorcycles, and emergency vehicles; noise from school bells, students and community.

The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following demands: Standing and walking for extended periods; significant lifting, carrying and reaching above shoulders (stop sign); neck rotation; some bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, balancing, climbing (curbs, ramps), twisting at waist; manipulation/grasp of stop sign, whistle, cell phone, and writing instruments; see and hear in normal range with or without correction; speak to exchange information.
