Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve business objectives
- Manage and supervise department heads, ensuring effective communication and collaboration
- Establish and maintain relationships with customers, including Class I operations and freight customers
- Oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of railroad activities, ensuring optimal economy and efficiency
- Manage asset utilization, including routine evaluation of railroad requirements and capital improvement projects
- Develop and implement operating procedures for all railroad activities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations
- Manage budgets and operating plans, ensuring alignment with corporate strategic plans
- Develop and maintain a positive work environment, fostering a culture of excellence and teamwork
- Bachelor's degree in a related field and/or minimum ten years of relevant job-related experience
- At least three years of freight rail experience as a senior operating officer in a comparable operating environment
- At least two years of experience in senior management of a freight rail operating environment, including coordinating shipments with or through Class I operations and/or managing freight operations with large volumes of freight traffic
- Ability to read and interpret documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
- Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form
This position requires occasional standing, walking, and reaching with hands and arms. The position must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
Must be flexible to working hours that include days, nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
