Research Postdoctoral Fellow Opportunity

The University of Alabama is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to an ongoing research project funded by NOAA. This position offers the opportunity to work with a dynamic research team exploring innovative strategies for continental-scale hydrologic simulation.

About the Role:

  • We are looking for an individual with a strong background in applied hydrology, civil engineering, computer science, geoscience, or a closely related field.
  • Your primary responsibilities will include developing large-scale modeling tests, calibrating/training experiments, and working with development staff to recommend adjustments to community-developed datasets and applications used in the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH) research hydrology data stream.
  • You will also be responsible for developing manuscript descriptions of novel methods, tools, and datasets being produced within the CIROH science team for submission to refereed journal publications.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A Doctorate degree in a relevant field is required.
  • Strong interest in or skills in developing and applying hydrologic models, including conceptual, physics-inspired, and/or data-driven approaches.
  • Experience with large-scale hydrologic models, high-performance computing, programming in Python, data analysis and visualization, geospatial analysis, and processing of large meteorological and remote sensing data.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Compensation and Benefits:

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary range of $48,600 - $60,800 per year, depending on experience. The University of Alabama offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement savings, and paid time off.
