Pharmacy Intern

Job Summary:

Stony Brook Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacy Intern to join our team. As a Pharmacy Intern, you will play a vital role in preparing and dispensing medications to patients, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare medications for dispensing pursuant to a pharmacist-reviewed medication order or computer-generated list.
• Compound patient-specific medications under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.
• Repackage medications under the supervision of a pharmacist, following departmental policy and procedure.
• Fills unit dose cassettes from pharmacy profiles or medication fill list.
• Fills new medication orders for first doses.
• Processes floor stock emergency drug and drug transfer requisitions.
• Maintains appropriate levels of inventory in work area.
• Maintains proper medication storage.
• Assists the pharmacist in restocking crash carts and emergency boxes as needed.
• Delivers medications and IV solutions when assigned.
• Completes patient care unit inspections when assigned.
• Maintains awareness of and follows all rules, policies, and procedures of the department.

Qualifications:

• Possess an official Pharmacy Intern Permit issued by the University of the State of New York Education Department.
• Availability year-round is preferred.
• Hospital pharmacy experience is a plus.

Prior to start date, the selected candidate must meet the following requirements:

• Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services.
• Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three professional references.
• Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen.
• Meet regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
• Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).
