Job Overview

Position Objective:

The Lift Mechanic is responsible for ensuring the operational efficiency of ski lifts, managing snowmaking apparatus, executing mechanical repairs, and fostering a secure environment for guests to enjoy their mountain experience.

Essential Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of proven experience in lift repairs and mountain equipment maintenance.
  • Experience in ski area management is advantageous.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License without restrictions.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems, diesel engines, hydraulics, and hydrostatic drives.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Comprehensive understanding of maintenance protocols for ski lifts and related operations.
  • Experience with lift systems and mountain operational tasks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a team to achieve timely results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to identify optimal solutions while adhering to safety standards.
  • Awareness of ski area operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate lift machinery in compliance with state, OSHA, and ANSI regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance inspections on equipment, including daily, weekly, and monthly evaluations.
  • Monitor and maintain lift components, signage, communication systems, and controls.
  • Clear snow from loading and unloading areas to ensure proper operational heights.
  • Remain vigilant for any mechanical or electrical issues with lifts.
  • Capable of operating snow equipment, including snowmobiles.
  • Execute mechanical tasks as required with confidence.
  • Utilize snowmaking equipment as outlined in the Operations Plan when necessary.
  • Maintain the integrity of load and unload ramps and surrounding areas at lift stations.
  • Possess knowledge of necessary mechanical adjustments for lifts under unforeseen circumstances.
  • Engage in comprehensive safety training relevant to all equipment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged standing for up to 90% of an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to balance, climb, reach, squat, bend, kneel, crawl, and manipulate equipment controls, with the capacity to lift or push up to 75 lbs.
  • Capability to work effectively at high altitudes and in extreme cold and adverse weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work during night shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels and potential hazards such as mechanical, electrical, fumes, and dust.

Equipment Utilized:

  • Snowmaking machinery, air compressors, and high-pressure water pumps.
  • Electrical testing instruments.
  • Lift operation controls.
  • Basic hand tools such as wrenches, pliers, and screwdrivers.
  • Personal protective equipment, snow guns, hoses, hydrants, compressors, and other relevant tools.
