We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as an Animal Disaster Response Coordinator. This role will play a critical part in advancing the mission and programs of the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, Inc.
Key Responsibilities- Emergency Preparedness and Response: Develop and implement comprehensive disaster response plans, ensuring the safety and well-being of animals and team members.
- Animal Welfare and Care: Assess the health and well-being of rescued and non-rescued animals, provide immediate first aid, and coordinate veterinary care.
- Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with local, state, and national authorities, fire departments, law enforcement, and other agencies to ensure effective disaster response and animal welfare.
- Resource Management: Maintain supplies and equipment, mobilize volunteers, and ensure proper utilization of available resources.
- Document and Reporting: Keep detailed records of rescue operations and submit timely reports to relevant agencies and organizations.
- Training Initiatives: Organize and lead training sessions for diverse audiences, focusing on animal cruelty and neglect, and adapt communication styles to suit the needs of different groups.
- Education and/or Experience: One year of experience in disaster response, animal welfare, or emergency services, with knowledge of animal behavior, health, and handling techniques.
- Physical Demands: Ability to frequently stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch, and lift objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Environmental Adaptability: Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, be flexible with work schedules, and handle stressful situations and ever-changing daily workloads and demands.
May be exposed to unpleasant smells, animal/human waste, animal diseases possibly contagious, dust or airborne particles, and loud noise levels in the work environment. Must not have pet allergies preventing work attendance.
