  • Enlistment in the United States Army is mandatory for this position.

  • Compliance with Army Height and Weight standards is essential.

Position Overview:
Heavy Equipment Construction Specialists are responsible for operating various types of machinery, including bulldozers, cranes, and graders, to effectively manage and manipulate earth and materials for construction tasks within the Army.

These specialists handle equipment such as tractors with dozer attachments, scoop loaders, backhoe loaders, hydraulic excavators, motorized graders, and scrapers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret grade stakes and accurately position them.
  • Operate bulldozers, road graders, and other heavy machinery to achieve level surfaces.
  • Engage in clearing, grubbing, stripping, excavating, backfilling, stockpiling, and pushing scrapers with tractor crawlers.
  • Manage the cutting and spreading of fill materials using scrapers.
  • Transport heavy construction machinery utilizing tractor-trailers.
  • Support the execution of combat engineer missions.

Training Requirements:
Training for Heavy Equipment Construction Specialists includes 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training followed by nine weeks of Advanced Individual Training. This training comprises both classroom instruction and practical field experience.

Skills Acquired:
  • Operation of various construction and rough terrain machinery.
  • Maintenance and repair techniques for equipment.
  • Identification of soil types and accurate placement of grade stakes.

Desirable Attributes:
  • Interest in operating heavy construction machinery.
  • Preference for outdoor work environments.
  • Enjoyment of hands-on tasks.
