Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Clinical Lab Support Representative to join our team at Children's National Hospital. As a Clinical Lab Support Representative, you will play a critical role in providing patient services and administrative support in laboratory operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and process specimens, check for proper and complete patient information, and perform other related services and clerical duties.
  • Provide patient services and administrative support in laboratory operations, including greeting patients and parents in a courteous and consumer-oriented manner.
  • Review patient insurance information for accuracy, collect demographic and insurance information, and verify the insurance information is complete prior to procedure.
  • Complete computer-aided, on-line registration with parent/guardian via telephone or in person in a courteous and consumer-oriented manner.
  • Answer inquiries and give test results by phone, answer general information and specimen requirement questions, and route technical questions to appropriate area for answers.
  • Verify insurance eligibility and coverage for anticipated procedures, notify parents of the need for completed insurance referral form or preauthorization of test requests, and counsel parents or refer parent to Manager or Coordinator for financial information and direction.
  • Enter patient information, test requests, cancellations, and additions into computer order program, perform computer searches for data inquiries, and print and retrieve reports.
  • Check test requisitions for completeness, request additional forms or documents from referring physician as necessary, confirm ICD9 codes are included and contact referring physician to confirm, and order tests in LIS.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED (Required)
  • 2 years' related experience in an accredited clinical setting (Required)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field (Preferred)
  • Experience in laboratory operations, patient services, and administrative support (Preferred)
