POSITION SUMMARY
The Information Security Specialist will contribute to the National Nuclear Security Administration's Technical Security Program. This initiative is dedicated to delivering Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM) services, physical security assistance, and various responsibilities as part of the vital mission of NNSA in safeguarding our nuclear security framework. This full-time role is perfect for an individual capable of developing cyber tools to enhance TSCM operations.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Information Security Specialist will provide technical support for the daily operations of the overall Technical Security Program. The specialist must collaborate effectively with the team and possess the ability to analyze packet captures, acquire knowledge in Counterintelligence, and apply their expertise to support TSCM activities. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Creating or assembling hardware or software tools for advanced threat detection and passive vulnerability assessment.
  • Formulating plans, processes, and procedures for advanced threat-hunting initiatives, passive vulnerability assessments, and close-access adversary emulation operations.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert in the execution of cyber-TSCM operations, guiding and assisting field teams in conducting:
  • advanced threat hunting operations,
  • wireless and IoT network analysis,
  • advanced host-based and network traffic analysis to identify close access threats,
  • custom signatures for detecting advanced close access threats,
  • and all other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
  • DOE Q or DOD Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Bachelor's Degree in cybersecurity, information systems, or a related discipline.
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in the cybersecurity domain, with at least 5 years in Cyber Red Team operations.
  • Expert-level proficiency in both offensive and defensive cyber operations tactics, techniques, and procedures.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% of the year for two weeks at a time.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Master's degree in cybersecurity, information systems, or a related field.
  • DoD 8570 IAT Level III Certification.
  • Certified Wireless Security Professional (CWSP).
  • Experience as a close-access operator executing cyber/cyber-enabling operations.
  • Expertise in creating and maintaining adversary emulation toolsets.
  • Familiarity with wireless communications technologies.
  • Extensive experience using Netflow/pcap or NDR solutions.
  • Knowledge of the NIST and MITRE ATT&CK frameworks.
  • Understanding of Supply Chain Attacks and detection strategies.
  • Experience with configuring and utilizing the following tools:
  • Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) systems.
  • Network Intrusion Detection System/Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Host Intrusion Detection System/Intrusion Prevention Systems (IDS/IPS).
  • Network and Host malware detection and prevention (NDR/EDR).
  • Network and Host forensic applications.
  • Experience with DOE/NNSA or any of the national laboratories.
