Job Title: Library Media Specialist

The Library Media Specialist plays a vital role in supporting the instructional program of the school by providing access to a wide range of resources and services. This position is responsible for managing the school library media center, planning and implementing the library media program, and providing guidance on the selection and acquisition of instructional materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement practices and procedures established by the Principal, School Library Coordinator, or Designee.
  • Plan, implement, monitor, and evaluate the school library media program.
  • Manage and operate the School Library Media Center.
  • Provide guidance in the selection and acquisition of instructional materials in varying formats, including digital media, and levels of difficulty.
  • Develop, update, and publicize the resources, services, and circulation policy of the Library Media Center and implement measures to ensure maximum and effective use of the resources and services by students and school staff.
  • Monitor the circulation of resources and compile monthly and annual statistical and program reports.
  • Assist in planning and coordinating professional learning activities to ensure professional growth of school system personnel.
  • Provide leadership and guidance in the selection, use, and evaluation of new technologies to enhance instruction.
  • Facilitate reading events and programs, complete lesson plans, units of study, and career fairs. Facilitate book fairs and professional development. Prepare the school for large reading initiatives. Teaching reading strategies and skills to all students in rotation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate
  • Master's Degree with certification in Library Media K-12 from an accredited institution
  • ESSA Criteria for Highly Effective Teacher
  • Experienced in the use and implementation of various instructional technologies
