Job Title: BCBA Counselor

Vestavia Hills City Schools is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated BCBA Counselor to join our team. As a BCBA Counselor, you will play a critical role in supporting students with behavioral and emotional challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) and develop Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) in collaboration with teachers, administrators, and other professionals.
  • Provide training and support to school staff on behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Assist in the design, implementation, and follow-up of behavioral management programs for students.
  • Model and coach staff in behavior management strategies and techniques.
  • Participate in parent/student meetings regarding behavior interventions.
  • Perform and model de-escalation techniques when an individual is exhibiting escalated and/or aggressive behavior.
  • Provide social skills training to students in areas such as anger management, social skills enhancement, conflict resolution, and appropriate peer interactions.
  • Provide ongoing professional development and support to school staff and district personnel on evidence-based strategies for proactively reducing challenging student behavior.
  • Maintain records and data related to student behavior and progress.
Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working in a clinical or school setting.
  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification.
  • Valid Alabama Teacher's Certificate with endorsement in special education, preferred.
  • Background clearance as specified by Alabama statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to read, interpret, and follow State Board of Education rules, School Board policies, and relevant state and federal statutes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of guidance and counseling principles.
  • Knowledge of community resources and services available for student assistance.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Positive interpersonal skills with strong leadership skills and experience in training others.
  • Ability to use personal computers and technology to perform needed tasks.
  • Ability to counsel and assist students, parents, and school personnel in resolving problems related to student learning, behavior, and mental health.
  • Ability to analyze data and use data to inform decision-making.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
