Position Overview:


As an HVAC Field Technician Apprentice, your primary responsibility will be to support HVAC Field Technicians in the installation and maintenance of environmental control systems, applying your knowledge of refrigeration principles, control systems, pipe fitting, and structural layouts.

In this role, you will build and maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and colleagues through effective communication skills, whether via phone, email, or in-person interactions.

Your duties will include performing scheduled and unscheduled preventive maintenance, conducting inspections, site surveys, and addressing service requests, including equipment replacements and modifications as required by clients.

You will also assist in learning the complete process of testing, starting up, commissioning, and servicing on assigned projects.

  • Acts as a representative of the company by learning to serve as the primary customer contact, ensuring satisfaction through the identification, examination, diagnosis, and repair of equipment and systems at customer locations.
  • Collaborates with the supervising field technician/project manager and customers to fully understand the requirements for all on-site installations and repairs, including forecasting potential issues, gathering necessary materials, and coordinating on-site work.
  • Utilizes advanced software and technology, along with various hand tools, to diagnose and repair units, following blueprints or engineering specifications.
  • Upholds safety standards and maintains accountability for company-issued and procured assets by accurately recording their use, condition, and wear.
  • Demonstrates teamwork and dedication to customer service by maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weekends as needed, including occasional overnight stays.

Qualifications:

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent, or a certificate from an accredited technical school is required. Preferably, candidates should have 2 or more years of experience in HVAC. Formal training or technical school background is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software and comfortable using handheld devices (e.g., smartphones, tablets).
Must possess a valid driver's license for at least 12 months, with no significant or frequent traffic violations, including but not limited to:

  • DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple minor infractions or preventable collisions in the past 3 years.
  • EPA Certification is preferred (e.g., HVAC Journeyman, Boiler Operator, Gas Installer, etc.).

Additional Requirements and Environmental Considerations:

  • Must be able to operate a vehicle safely and legally while using a seat belt.
  • Must be able to wear safety gear such as helmets, goggles, fall protection harnesses, and safety boots to perform job duties safely.
  • Must be able to twist the trunk of the body 90 degrees in each direction.
  • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands.
  • Must be able to reach overhead comfortably.
  • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, typically up to 4 hours.
  • This position is physically demanding and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders. Employees must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs. and frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. (may occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs. with special approval).
  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 375 lb. total weight limit while carrying equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to navigate access areas as small as 30" vertical x 45" horizontal.
  • Must be able to routinely access rooftops using extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15' to 20', and occasionally up to 50 feet or more.
  • This role may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, electrical hazards, noisy equipment, and other environmental factors based on the work location.
