Job Summary

Massachusetts General Hospital(MGH) is seeking a skilled Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our Dermatology team. As a LPN in this role, you will provide high-quality patient care and support to our patients and loved ones under the direct supervision of a physician and Nurse Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide physical care and emotional support to patients and loved ones under direct supervision of the Nurse Manager and Medical Director.
  • Participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care and treatment plans.
  • Observe, report, and record pertinent patient information into electronic health record system in accordance with Dermatology Service protocols.
  • Identify patient care needs and apply nursing resources appropriately.
  • Support and reinforce patient teaching plan, educate patients about accurate use of medications, and provide wound care instructions.
  • Coordinate medications and perform nursing procedures after successful orientation within the parameters defined by the Dermatology Service.
  • Photograph patients with various skin conditions, triage patient urgent clinical calls, and schedule patient appointments and Telehealth appointments.
  • Advise patients of pathology, lab results, and plan of care.
  • Apply In-Basket messages to monitor all biopsies and ensure that all necessary therapies are coordinated as scheduled by the physician.
  • Provide clinical nursing coverage across the Medical Dermatology specialty services.
  • Acquire prior authorizations for medications as needed.
  • Participate in developing and implementing new insights in nursing practice.
  • Participate in daily activities conducive to the comfort and safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Order medical supplies and maintain appropriate inventory.
  • Provide input to the Nurse Manager regarding perceived unit needs.
  • Participate in unit and service committees.
  • Ensure that the physical environment is maintained.
  • Establish and implement annual fire and safety regulations for the practice, following established protocols, and ensuring compliance with the Joint Commission, OSHA, and Hospital guidelines.
  • Troubleshoot routine/non-routine problems and take measures to accurately handle issues.
  • Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the patient.
  • Participate in relevant continuing education programs.
  • Ability to take initiative and to exercise independent judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving expertise.
  • Effective interpersonal/communication, organizational, and flexibility to handle multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency in wound care and injection administration, preferred.

Qualifications
Current Massachusetts' licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse required. CPR certification required. Phlebotomy experience preferred. Graduate of an approved LPN program required.
