Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Pharmacy Technician III PRN to join our team at the University of New Mexico. As a Pharmacy Technician III PRN, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our pharmacy services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of pharmacy technician duties under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, including receiving and processing prescriptions, managing inventory, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist with the implementation and maintenance of software and hardware associated with Pyxis, RxRobot, Optifill, and other departmental systems.
  • Coordinate all medication-related issues for patients, providers, and clinic staff, including procuring medication for UNM Hospitals indigent patients.
  • Perform audits, research, and correct data to maintain the integrity of programs, including 30/60/90 day audits on new pharmacy staff members.
  • Maintain and assist with the optimization of automated dispensing machines, including performing monthly controlled substance inventory and inspections.
  • Perform basic cashiering duties, collect money for prescription and related purchases, and close and balance registers.
  • Coordinate patient refills for specialized medications, procure and manage specialty medications, and ensure all pharmacy billing is done correctly.
  • Onboard and train new pharmacy staff members, including pharmacy technicians and pharmacists.
  • Fill medication with the correct drug, dose, and dosage form, review pharmacy labels, and ensure accurate compounding of high-dollar infusion medications and hazardous agents.
  • Perform shipping and receiving of incoming medications, including specialty and hazardous medications.
  • Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures, and protocols, and demonstrate a proactive approach to patient safety.
Requirements
  • High School or GED Equivalent
  • Training in Hospital Pharm Tech or equivalent
  • Chemotherapy Drug prep training within 60 days
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician in NM within 60 days
  • 2 years directly related experience
  • Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo or Bilingual English/Spanish
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with frequent interruptions and deadlines. The incumbent must be able to lift 50-100 pounds occasionally, and 25-50 pounds frequently, and 10-20 pounds constantly. The position also requires the ability to work in a chemical and bio-hazardous environment, with the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
