About the Role

As a Behavioral Health Care Advocate at UnitedHealth Group, you will play a critical role in promoting recovery and resiliency for individuals with complex and high-risk needs. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Engaging and motivating consumers through a recovery-oriented approach
  • Assisting consumers and their families/caregivers with connections to psychiatric, medical, and psychosocial referrals and services
  • Identifying and removing barriers to service procurement, delivery, and success
  • Providing supportive follow-up, monitoring, and education as indicated
  • Partnering with external providers and programs to address consumer needs and gaps in care
  • Identifying and addressing the needs of high-utilizing members through case conferences and informal communications
  • Participating in standing meetings to review performance and identify areas for improvement
  • Establishing and fostering positive relationships with medical teams and participating in medical-behavioral integration activities
  • Identifying high-risk, co-morbid needs of consumers
  • Accepting referrals and collaborating in evaluating available services and coordinating necessary referrals
  • Contributing to treatment plan discussions and attending clinical rounds and other meetings as applicable
  • Meeting contractual requirements and collaborating with other teams in managing cases with intensive, complex, and high-risk needs
  • Complying with policies, procedures, and documentation standards
  • Establishing a cooperative relationship with Optum Behavioral Network Services and the Provider community
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A licensed Master's degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling, or Marriage and Family Counseling, or a Licensed Ph.D., or an RN with 2+ years of experience in behavioral health
  • An active, independent, and unrestricted license in Texas
  • 2+ years of experience in a related mental health setting
  • Proven computer/typing proficiency and experience with electronic clinical records, email, internet research, and online calendars
  • Access to high-speed internet from home and reliable transportation for travel within the designated service delivery area
Preferred Qualifications

While not required, the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in an inpatient setting
  • Dual diagnosis experience with mental health and substance abuse
  • Experience in a community mental health setting
  • Experience working in an environment that required coordination of benefits and utilization of multiple groups and resources for patients
  • Previous experience in a managed care environment
  • Experience with the Medicaid/Medicare population
  • Bilingual skills (fluency in Spanish/English)
