About the Job

The Fitness Instructor is a key member of the Hopedale Medical Complex team, responsible for leading groups in exercise and helping them meet their fitness goals. This role may involve working with individual clients as a personal trainer or teaching classes in a health center.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing new member assessments and orientations, personal training sessions, and writing membership agreements. They will also supervise the fitness floor, assist in the maintenance of fitness equipment, teach group exercise classes, and interact with members to assess needs for new equipment and classes.

Responsibilities
  1. Selects and administers appropriate fitness programs consistent with physician orders and professional assessment of patients' needs.
  2. Ensures efficient operation of the Fitness Program by assisting the Wellness Center Director in maintaining fitness equipment in proper operating condition.
  3. Performs new member fitness assessments and orientations according to appropriate protocol.
  4. Schedules and documents all new member assessments, orientations, and regular personal training sessions.
  5. Teaches group exercise classes.
  6. Assists with various health promotion and wellness programs for members and Hopedale Medical Complex employees as needed.
  7. Supervises the fitness floor to ensure the safety of all members and patients.
  8. Assists in the maintenance of fitness equipment, including cleaning, writing work requests, and contacting equipment representatives as needed.
  9. Develops and maintains a positive working relationship with department and Medical Complex personnel and outside agencies.
  10. Supports and is involved in the Wellness Center's continuous quality improvement efforts to increase patient outcomes, satisfaction, and utilization of Hopedale Medical Complex resources.
Requirements
  • Holds a current fitness training certificate or is eligible for certification as a personal fitness trainer.
  • Holds current CPR/AED certification or is willing to obtain certification.
  • Interpersonal skills are necessary to communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and Medical Complex personnel when providing guidance for fitness programs and exchanging patient-related information.
  • Analytical skills are necessary to develop and assess fitness programs and recommend changes.
Physical Demands

The work requires the ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a daily basis, carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, and kneel for 90% of work time, stoop and bend, reach, and grab with arms and hands, have manual dexterity, and communicate with other people.
