Position Title:
Lead Project Accountant

Role Overview:
The Lead Project Accountant will act as the key financial representative for the project team, clients, and suppliers. This position entails ensuring precise and timely financial reporting and analysis for project teams and upper management. The assigned projects and accounting responsibilities will vary in complexity from moderate to high. This role will report directly to the Controller.

Key Qualifications:
Essential:
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in Accounting or Finance.
- Proven ability to organize and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and knowledge of basic accounting principles.
- Strong documentation, research, and resolution skills.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Capability to work collaboratively as part of a team, manage time effectively, and meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Initiative and ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
- High level of personal integrity and confidentiality.

Desirable:
- Experience in the Construction Industry.

Work Environment:
This position is based in a corporate office with occasional local travel required.

Key Responsibilities:
- Review and understand the construction contract requirements for assigned projects.
- Familiarize yourself with the relevant components of the project’s geographic area (e.g., sales/use tax).
- Maintain accurate records of customer and subcontractor contract amounts and change orders.
- Prepare and reconcile project billings, ensuring timely invoicing of all allowable costs.
- Follow up on customer invoices that are overdue and document any issues in the accounting system.
- Process subcontractor and supplier invoices promptly, ensuring proper approvals are in place.
- Review equipment pre-bill reports and collaborate with the Project Manager for accuracy.
- Identify and address any discrepancies in project costs.
- Ensure timely processing of all project-related costs.
- Prepare and review journal entries as necessary.
- Collaborate with the Project Manager to review non-billable costs for potential billing opportunities.
- Collect and track lien waivers from subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate customer and vendor records.
- Ensure timely closure of completed projects, following all necessary documentation.
- Prepare monthly account reconciliations and support internal financial reporting.
- Assist in the development and implementation of accounting systems and processes.
- Foster positive professional relationships with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Mentor junior Project Accountants, aiding in their professional growth.

Physical Requirements:
The physical demands of this role include prolonged periods of sitting at a workstation and during meetings, as well as travel by various means. The employee must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and possess the dexterity to operate a computer keyboard and mouse. Additionally, the ability to hear and speak clearly is essential, along with the capability to distinguish colors on graphs and charts. Occasional site visits may expose the employee to various outdoor conditions.
