We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Certified Surgical First Assistant to join our team at Universal Health Services. As a key member of our surgical team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the success of our patients and the smooth operation of our operating rooms.
Responsibilities- Assist surgeons with exposure, hemostasis, and other technical functions to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Work closely with registered nurses and other surgical team members to provide exceptional patient care.
- Participate in the preparation and maintenance of the operating room environment to ensure a safe and efficient surgical experience.
- Assist with the preparation of patients for surgery, including draping and positioning.
- Provide retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization, under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
- Maintain hemostasis through direct pressure, use of surgical instruments, electrocautery, and other measures directed by the surgeon.
- Perform sponging and suctioning on operative sites, and assist with the closure of subcutaneous and skin wound layers.
- May harvest vein graft for cardiac procedures under the surgeon's supervision.
- Assist with the placement of drainage systems and apply wound dressings.
- Participate in patient safety initiatives and Universal Protocol.
- Comply with all relevant policies and procedures, including those related to infection control and patient confidentiality.
- Current certification as a Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) or equivalent.
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Surgical Technologist or equivalent.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skill in applying principles of asepsis and infection control.
- Knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent.
- Current licensure as a Surgical First Assistant, where required by state law.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
