Job Summary

The Underground Directional Drill Operator/Locator is a critical role within the Line team at MasTec Utility Services. This position requires a high level of expertise in operating directional drill equipment to place product underground, while also locating the drill head to understand elevation changes and make informed decisions to avoid hitting underground utilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate the drill rig efficiently and safely, preparing the job and drill for each shot.
  • Pothole all utilities that will be paralleled or crossed during the bore shot, verifying their existence and location.
  • Fill water tanks with water and combine it with chemicals for boring, depending on the ground conditions.
  • Locate the drill head from point A to point B without hitting any utilities at the correct depth.
  • Hook up swivel, reamer, and pipe product for pulling back to complete the bore shot.
  • Inspect and maintain job equipment, including drill equipment and mixing units.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1 year of relevant experience.
  • Valid CDL Class A driver's license with tanker endorsement.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • Preferred: 3 or more years of experience.
Work Environment

This role operates in a field environment, requiring extended periods of physical activity, including bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, lifting, and standing. The employee must be able to work in inclement weather conditions and have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
