About the Position

We are seeking a highly skilled Database Administrator Senior to join our IT team at Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining all enterprise databases.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in database design, development, and administration, with experience in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and other related technologies. You will work closely with our team to ensure the highest level of system performance and availability, while maintaining the integrity and security of our databases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement logical and physical databases to meet system requirements
  • Establish and monitor processes for extracting data from or loading data into databases
  • Provide support, standards, and information relating to database back-ups, archiving, and data recovery
  • Perform database and software life-cycle activities to ensure highest level of system performance and availability
  • Maintain archival copies of database-related files and information
  • Provide documentation and support to users, development and operations staff, and management
  • Write, test, and put into production all tables, constraints, triggers, stored procedures, and permissions
  • Work with system programmers to create, enhance, and troubleshoot applications
  • Monitor performance and database usage and adjust as needed
  • Maintain the integrity, security, and availability of the databases
  • Perform the process of database security in compliance with MCSO policy
  • Provide physical model recommendations
  • Provide escalation support for production and non-production databases; advise and assist other database administrators
  • Collect and report data as required for departmental statistics
  • Perform high availability and disaster recovery - installation and configuration at database layer to include 3rd party applications and always on availability groups
  • Assist management in evaluating technology issues, policies, and procedures

Working Conditions

Work occurs primarily indoors. Tasks require managing emergencies, interruptions, time pressures, and high work volume. Responsibilities require teamwork, concentration, accuracy, ethical conduct, and a professional demeanor.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Four (4) years of experience in database design, development, maintenance, administration, and support in a large-scale enterprise environment
  • Must possess a valid Arizona driver's license or have the ability to obtain by the time of hire
  • Training that may be provided on-the-job: FEMA NIMS - IS100 and 700; Safety; Payroll; PREA
  • Prior to hiring, the Sheriff's Office requires that all candidates pass a background review

Preferred Candidate

Seven years (7) experience as a Database Administrator with Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, Stored Procedures & Triggers, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell, and Power BI.
