Position Overview:
The Radiation Oncology Physicist plays a crucial role in the meticulous design, technical assessment, and accurate implementation of radiation treatment protocols under the supervision of the Administrative Director/Manager. This position involves collaboration with the Radiation Oncology Director and the Radiation Safety Officer to ensure adherence to a quality management system and safety standards in all radiation oncology operations.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducts, documents, and ensures compliance with calibration, maintenance, quality control, and performance evaluations of all Radiation Oncology apparatus, in accordance with State, Federal, and JCAHO regulations to maintain licensure.
  • Engages in treatment planning and dosimetry, verifying all prescription calculations and promptly informing physicians of any inconsistencies.
  • Regularly reviews, updates, and formalizes policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with established departmental and hospital guidelines, quality control measures, radiation safety protocols, and infection control standards.
  • Delivers educational sessions and continuing education lectures on radiation safety and the integration of new techniques or procedures, serving as a resource for staff.
  • Collaborates with department supervisors and radiation oncologists to guarantee patient safety and quality care continuously.
  • Generates treatment plans using computer isodose planning or manual calculations to achieve optimal tumor volume coverage as per physician prescriptions, and performs specific dose calculations for individual patients upon request.
  • May assume the role of the facility Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Oversees all aspects of brachytherapy procedures.
  • Upholds the mission, vision, and values of Intermountain Healthcare, adhering to service behavior standards.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD or Master's Degree in Medical Physics or a DMP Degree is required. Board eligibility in Therapeutic Medical Physics is mandatory, along with licensure in the state of practice as required.

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in Medical Physics is preferred. Successful performance in this role necessitates the ability to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily.

Physical Requirements:
This position requires hearing, lifting, manual dexterity, pulling/pushing, visual acuity, sitting, speaking, squatting/kneeling, standing, and walking capabilities.

Commitment to Safety:
Ensures the safety of staff and patients by implementing all State and Federal regulations governing activities involving radioactive materials and x-ray producing equipment.
