Role Summary and Qualifications

The Speech Language Pathologist delivers exceptional, patient-focused care by designing and implementing tailored therapy programs for individuals facing communication, cognitive, and swallowing challenges. As part of the healthcare team, the Speech Language Pathologist conducts thorough patient evaluations and sets appropriate treatment objectives. Additionally, the Speech Language Pathologist serves as an educator for patients, families, students, and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct subjective assessments of patients' speech and language capabilities through spontaneous conversation. Administer objective evaluations to identify communication strengths and weaknesses.
  • Develop and execute individualized treatment plans aimed at enhancing communication skills.
  • Regularly assess patient progress during therapy and modify treatment plans as necessary to optimize outcomes.
  • Document patient progress accurately in medical records, including notes, charges, discharge summaries, and communication with patients.
  • Collaborate with the Program Director and Rehab Physician/Medical Director regarding pre-screen assessments and physician consultations to determine suitable patient placements.
Required Qualifications:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment commencement.
  • Certified Speech Language Pathologist in the State of Texas.
  • Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology and CCC-SLP certification.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care environment.
  • Experience in Adult Acute Care, ICU, Med/Surg, and Rehabilitation, with proficiency in evaluating and treating various swallowing, speech, and language disorders, including MBSS.
  • Availability to work one weekend per month (Saturday and Sunday), weekdays as needed, and rotating holidays.
  • Flexibility to float between acute care and inpatient rehabilitation as required.
