Job Summary

The Specialty Medical Director is a key leadership position responsible for providing strategic direction and oversight to the Specialty Medical Directors and Site-Based Medical Directors within their specialty. This role requires strong leadership and communication skills, as well as the ability to drive quality and safety initiatives across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Oversight
    • Provide guidance and support to Specialty Medical Directors and Site-Based Medical Directors in their specialty.
    • Oversee the performance of Assistant Specialty Medical Directors and/or Site-Based Medical Directors, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
  • Quality and Safety
    • Develop and implement quality and safety initiatives to improve patient outcomes and reduce readmissions.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and address quality and safety concerns.
  • Care Coordination
    • Ensure seamless coordination of care across the continuum, including hospital, ambulatory, and post-acute settings.
    • Develop and implement strategies to improve care transitions and reduce fragmentation.
  • Physician Leadership and Professionalism
    • Model Atrium Health values and lead by example to improve physician relations within the specialty, division, medical group, and system.
    • Provide guidance and support to Specialty Medical Directors and Site-Based Medical Directors in their role as arbitrators for physician concerns.
  • Communication and Collaboration
    • Communicate effectively with senior leadership, Specialty Medical Directors, Site-Based Medical Directors, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and coordination of efforts.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement strategic plans and initiatives.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience
    • MD or DO degree required.
    • Minimum 5 years of experience in a leadership role within a healthcare organization.
  • Skills and Abilities
    • Strong leadership and communication skills.
    • Ability to drive quality and safety initiatives.
    • Experience with care coordination and population health management.
