Aircraft Mechanic II Job Description

Job Summary:

Aircraft Flight Mechanic II MH60-R (Helicopter Aircrew) meets all requirements, and performs all duties and responsibilities of a Functional Check Air crewman. Performs in-flight duties and assists the Maintenance Test Pilots, consistent with established Naval and Force and Company standards depending on assignment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs as flight crew as assigned or aboard aircraft in flight or on the ground during day operations, and day or night shift work.
  • Performs in-flight observation, troubleshooting, adjustments, and repair consistent with current procedures.
  • Performs aircraft functional checks including, but not limited to, run-up and magnetic compass swings, when required.
  • Uses tracking and balancing equipment, hoists, dollies, cranes, and special tools and test equipment necessary in the performance of functional assignment.
  • Performs all Aircraft Mechanic duties when not performing Flight Mechanic duties.
  • Operates aircraft towing equipment in towing operations.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Operates motor vehicles, machines and special purpose equipment as required by the job assignment.
  • Performs prescribed cleaning, preservation and operator maintenance on vehicles, tools and equipment. Performs housekeeping duties in immediate work area.
  • Ensures that tools and equipment used by the employee in the classification are properly calibrated.
  • When selected, attends schools and classes, which are designated by the Company for employees in the assigned classification.
  • Use approved methods in the performance of the assigned job.
  • Performs the duties of lower classified employees within the line of progression when assigned.
  • Completes and maintains records and reports as required by job assignment.
  • Demonstrates job procedures and assists in the training of employees within the classification as required.
  • Performs imaging technology (scanning and other related) functions as required by the job assignment.
  • Disposes of hazardous materials related to job assignment.
  • Performs duties using automated equipment and software utilized in the functional assignment.
  • May remove and reinstall cowlings, panels and fairings necessary to gain access to work within his classification.
  • When assigned to the flight line, provide customer support during launch and recovery and aircraft security as required.
  • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:

Occasional lifting to 50 pounds, constant sitting while using the computer terminal, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication, constant mental alertness, must possess planning/organizing skills, Hazmat handling and must be able to work under deadlines.

Procedure Compliance - Each employee must read, understand and implement the general and specific operational, safety, quality and environmental requirements of all plans, procedures and policies pertaining to his/her job.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent--General Educational Development (GED) certificate, 5 years minimum experience.
  • Must be Mission/Design/Series (MDS) qualified or have at least 4 years' of experience in the classification for the applicable MDS/MH60-R.
  • Completed Naval Aircrew school and MH60-R Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) training school.
  • Complete required training requirements as required by US Navy, IAW OPNAV]CNAF 3710 and other government/military instructions pertaining to qualifying for flying in a MH60-R Helicopter.
  • Must be able to Build or maintain/manage or if assigned by Site Manger as program coordinator program in accordance with COMNAVAIRFORINST 4790/ OPNAV]CNAF 3710 all present and future versions and revisions.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US government Common Access Card (CAC). Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), For temporary use only while waiting for CAC.
  • Required to possess and maintain a favorably adjudicated Tier 3 Background Investigation (Secret Clearance is required).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
  • Must have a valid and maintain a current state drivers license.
  • Must be able to meet physical requirements associated with and pass any medical examination requirements.
  • Must be able to work all shifts. Full time employment; but 40 hour is not guaranteed per-week. Working hours; must be able to be flexible, start time and end time will be dependent on flight schedule and or overall tasking.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Shall hold a valid, or have the physical ability to obtain an FAA Medical Certificate, as prescribed by the Government. ( Maintain both as needed for flight duties and training Class1 and Class2)
  • Shall maintain a class II swim qualification.
  • Shall Complete the Aviation Physiology and Water Survival Qualification.. Must pass a FAA medical exam class 1 before attending training.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must qualify and maintain currency to perform Maintenance Operational Checks (MOCs) and run-ups when required. 90 days probation in position assigned.
  • Completes maintenance documentation accurately using Integrated Maintenance Data System (IMDS) and required forms, as required by job assignment.
  • Must show proficiency in the use of IMDS within 90 days after assignment.
  • Must have one year aircraft maintenance experience on the MH-60R Model aircraft which shall be documented in personnel and/or training records.
  • May be required to provide on-the-job training (OJT) to newly assigned personnel, within the classification.
  • Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS), For temporary use only while waiting for be able to obtain and maintain a US government Common Access Card (CAC).

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Must be able to Read, write, speak and understand English.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Must have a valid state driver's license when required by job assignment.
