Assistant Store Manager Job Description

Job Summary:

The Assistant Store Manager plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, well-organized store with a customer-first focus. This position assists the Store Manager in supervising store employees, managing merchandise, and ensuring excellent customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide exceptional customer service, greeting and assisting customers, and operating cash registers and scanners.
  • Assist with scheduling employees, providing training, and conducting safety meetings.
  • Manage merchandise, including receiving, stocking, and rotating products on shelves.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels and controlling damages and markdowns.
  • Implement and maintain planograms to ensure merchandise is presented according to company standards.
  • Authorize and sign for refunds and overrides, count register tills, and deposit money in the bank.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Effective communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, perform mathematical calculations, and operate cash registers.
  • Knowledge of cash handling procedures and facility control policies.

Working Conditions:

  • Frequent walking and standing.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling to run check-out stations and stock merchandise.
  • Frequent handling of merchandise and equipment.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional climbing using step ladders.
  • Fast-paced environment with moderate noise levels.
