Job Summary

Colorado Legal Services (CLS) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Staff Attorney to join our Denver Housing Unit. As a Staff Attorney, you will play a critical role in providing legal advocacy and representation to low-income tenants at risk of or facing eviction. Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver exceptional legal counsel and advocacy to tenants, ensuring their rights are protected and their voices are heard.
  • Collaborate with a dynamic team of professionals to develop and implement eviction prevention strategies.
  • Conduct thorough client interviews, investigate facts, and build strong case strategies to achieve successful outcomes.
  • Represent tenants in court and administrative hearings, using your expertise in housing law to advocate for their rights.
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of client case notes in our case management system.
  • Provide information and advice to tenants at courthouse clinics, quickly assessing their legal matters to draft pleadings.
  • Research complex housing issues, identifying systemic ways to address homelessness and improve outcomes for our clients.
  • Work collaboratively with partner organizations to provide comprehensive support services to our clients.
Requirements
  • Valid license to practice law in Colorado or ability to obtain a license within a few months.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, with the ability to balance multiple tasks and responsibilities.
  • Experience representing clients in the court or administrative process, with a focus on housing law and eviction defense.
  • Comfortable making arguments in front of a judge or administrative body.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations, including those living in poverty and those combatting mental illness.
